Rood was born 1910 and educated at the University of Wisconsin (B.M., 1929), Smith College (M.A., 1942) and Julliard School (dipolma, 1945). She joined the Smith College Music Dept. in 1937 and taught there until her death in 1964, as well as at other colleges and universities. She was an accomplished violist.
